One trend in California households is an increasing prevalence of homes comprised of unmarried partners. In 2000, unmarried opposite-sex partnerships comprised 5.1% of households throughout the state and in 2010 that grew to 6.2%, a 20% change. In Southern California, the increased percentage of census tracts with a significant number of unmarried partner households is easy to see.
