Interactive: Panorama: Unlocking history in the Hall of Justice - Charles Manson
- Share via
This jail cell from row 1001 is similar to one that held murderer Charles Manson for some time during his trial in the Hall of Justice in 1971. Manson was actually housed in cell 1010. He was later moved to 1310, a higher-security one built for Sirhan Sirhan, after an escape attempt. This row had fewer cells and a deputy was stationed closer to the prisoner for constant monitoring. The original cells were unsalvageable. The one on display is not open to the public yet but will be when an interpretive center opens. This all according to Michael A. Fratantoni, a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department historian. (Bryan Chan / Los Angeles Times)
