The Passenger: Elio Carrion, 23

Carrion joined the Air Force in 2003 less than a year after graduating from Montclair High School. He was trained as a military police officer and security officer and stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base, and recently reenlisted. He had had just returned from a 6-month tour in Iraq at the time of the January 2006 incident. On that day, Carrion testified that he had spent the day with family and friends at a barbecue where they toasted his return from Iraq and the next phase of his career in the military. He said he did not remember getting into the Corvette driven by his longtime friend Luis Escobedo, who was intoxicated. Carrion said he woke up in the Corvette shortly before seeing a police car behind him and repeatedly urged his friend to slow down and pull over for police. During the traffic stop after Carrion got out of the car and onto the ground. Webb shot Carrion three times, in his chest, upper left shoulder and his leg. Carrion recuperated in the hospital for three to four months. Carrion and his wife, Mariela, recently had a baby girl.
