Power to the People

This year’s L.A. Auto Show marks the start of something big: the age of the electric vehicle. Gathered here in the vast halls of the convention center is one of the largest collections of electric vehicles ever assembled under one roof. Almost every manufacturer has one on display, from major automakers right down to the little guys.

One of those little guys is Coda, a California-based electric car and battery company focused on the development of cutting-edge green technology. Coda hopes that its core technology — advanced lithium-ion battery systems — will power a new generation of clean vehicles and drastically improve the efficiency and rate of adoption of clean energy sources like wind and solar power. Coda’s 100% electric sedan (named, appropriately enough, the Coda Sedan) is the first product to benefit from the company’s advanced technology.

The Coda Sedan is a four-door, five-passenger battery-electric vehicle (BEV) capable of providing a dependable all-season range of 90 to 120 miles on a single charge. The revolutionary vehicle will be the first mainstream all-electric sedan from an all-electric car company when it enters the market in the coming months.

The Coda is an effortless blend of style and function. With a classic profile and sleek lines, its aesthetic is at once unique and familiar. No angle is a bad one, although the front end is the most interesting. Since there’s no need to cool an engine, there’s no need for a grille — so the front became a blank canvas for design. And although a lot of thinking went into design, it doesn’t seem like function took a back seat to style. With room for five passengers and a full-size trunk, it’s as utilitarian as any compact sedan on the market.

Coda also adorned the sedan with two prominent “All-Electric” badges of honor — one on the trunk and one inside the plug housing — that let everyone know your one-of-a-kind car is also humbly saving the planet.

Charging the Coda is safe, convenient and fast. In fact, you can plug it straight into your standard household unit. You can also charge it at home with a 220-volt plug, which is the cheapest and most efficient way to get a full charge. It does require a special wall unit, which needs to be installed by a trained professional.

The Coda also comes with a 110-volt mobile connection set that allows you to charge from any standard outlet, so you can have the freedom to charge on the spot from anywhere you want. It doesn’t get much easier than that.

Best of all, there’s only one trim level to choose from, so everyone gets the top-of-the-line model.
