Hollywood car crashes: From Shia LaBeouf to James Dean

In July 2008, “Indiana Jones” and “Transformers” star Shia LaBeouf made headlines, but not for his role in a blockbuster film. According to the Associated Press, LaBeouf got into a car accident on La Brea and Fountain in Hollywood. Nobody was seriously injured, but both parties went to the hospital. LaBeouf was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. He was not criminally charged in the incident, but his license was suspended for one year. (Wally Skalij / Los Angeles Times)
Daniel Baldwin Arrested for Allegedly Stealing Car
Daniel Baldwin: In July 2006, the second-oldest Baldwin brother was observed by police officers weaving in and out of traffic at 80 mph in a rented Ford Thunderbird before he crashed into two parked cars -- one of them a Hummer that was pushed about 20 feet by the impact. He then refused to comply with the police until one of them drew a gun. The actor, who was arrested on suspicion of possessing cocaine also last year, is not looking too good these days. (Getty Images)
Lindsay Lohan to serve day in jail for drunken driving
Lindsay Lohan: The teen actress, once described as the Eloise of “Chateau Marmont” (nice one, Vanity Fair!), was involved in two high-profile car accidents within months of each other. It is generally agreed that the first one, which took place May 31, 2005, was the fault of the paparazzi. It is generally agreed that the crash in October was not. (EPA)
Paris Hilton
Paris Hilton: In early November 2005, Hilton was involved in a fender bender at a parking lot near Element nightclub. No major damage was done and the heiress wasn’t even driving, although it was her $162,000 late-model Bentley. But that didn’t stop E! Online News from running the headline “Hilton’s Hollywood Smash-Up” and declaring that Hilton’s auto insurance rates are “bound to suffer.” (Getty Images for Distinctive Assets)
Jason Priestley
Jason Priestley: The actor-turned-race-car-driver has been involved in several car accidents since “90210" went off the air. He broke his back in 2002 going 180 mph at the Kentucky Speedway and he crashed in a ditch during the Michelin SCCA Pro-Rally in Olympia, Wash. But not all of Priestley’s crashes took place on the course -- in 1999, the actor totaled his Porsche when he drove into a pole, some trashcans and a parked car in the Hollywood Hills. (ABC Family)
Yasmine Bleeth: In September 2001, the former “Baywatch” star drove a rented Chrysler into the median of interstate 94 on her way to Detroit Metropolitan airport. The actress, who had recently completed rehab, admitted to being high on coke at the time and drugs were found in her Louis Vuitton purse (including syringes of liquid cocaine). Bleeth told police that the front of the car started to shake, prompting her to let go of the wheel. (Kevork Djansezian / AP)
James Dean with Silver Porsche
James Dean: The iconic actor, who once filmed a public service announcement cautioning teenagers to drive, safely was killed Sept. 30, 1955, while driving his new Porsche 550 Spyder to a car race in Salinas, Calif. He was reportedly driving about 85 mph at dusk when college student Donald Turnipseed, blinded by a low sun, made a left turn onto the highway and collided with Dean’s car. Supposedly, the 24-year-old star’s final words were, “He’s got to see us!” (Bettmann / Corbis)
Jack Nicholson: This one’s not a car crash, but an infamous act of road rage.

Believing another driver cut him off on the road, Nicholson stepped out of his car at the intersection of Moorpark Way and Riverside Drive and began to whack the windshield of the perceived offender’s car with a golf club while reportedly screaming “Johnny’s Back!” After settling out of court, the actor was still invited to serve as celebrity host of the 23rd Police-Celebrity Golf Tournament. Forgive and forget! (Lawrence K. Ho / Los Angeles Times)
Haley Joel Osment
Haley Joel Osment: The 18-year-old ruddy-faced actor was hospitalized in July 2006 after his 1995 Saturn hit a brick pillar at 2:10 a.m. in La Cañada Flintridge. The car flipped over on its roof and came to rest a short distant away. Osment was pretty beat up, with a possible fracture of the scapula, one rib broken and some cuts and abrasions, but doctors assure us he will be OK. What they cannot assure us of is that the young actor wasn’t intoxicated at the time. Osment was charged with misdemeanor drunk driving. (Myung J. Chun / Los Angeles Times)

Halle Berry: In February 2000, the actress was involved in a collision in West Hollywood that was serious enough to give her a concussion and a head wound that required 20 stitches. But instead of sticking around to check on the other driver (who suffered a broken wrist), Berry got the hell out of dodge. Whoops! Late-night comedians have been cracking jokes ever since. (Scott Wintrow / Getty Images)
