Earthquake: 3.1 quake strikes near Morongo Valley, California

A shallow magnitude 3.1 earthquake was reported Saturday afternoon, three miles from Morongo Valley, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 4:25 p.m. Pacific time at a depth of 5.6 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was eight miles from Desert Hot Springs, 13 miles from Palm Springs, 13 miles from Yucca Valley and 264 miles from Phoenix.

In the last 10 days, there have been two earthquakes magnitude 3.0 and greater centered nearby.
