Amelia Earhart was an aviation pioneer and the first female pilot to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. She graduated from Hyde Park High School in Chicago in 1916 and returned to the city often. Earhart left behind a mysterious legacy after disappearing over the Pacific Ocean while trying to complete a flight around the world July 2, 1937. She was just shy of her 40th birthday.
