World AIDS Day is observed every December 1st with calls from international health and advocacy organizations for the public to get involved in programs for awareness, prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS. The number of HIV-positive people with access to AIDS medicines has jumped to 41 percent in the past five years, the United Nations said.
