The U.S. Secret Service is working to determine whether damage to an exterior window of the White House is linked to a Friday night shooting near the Washington Monument, after bullets were discovered at the presidential mansion Tuesday.

The Secret Service’s Uniformed Division, Washington’s Metropolitan Police Department, the U.S. Park Police and other law enforcement agencies continue a joint effort to locate 21-year-old Oscar Ortega-Hernandez, based on evidence recovered from a vehicle found in the 2300 block of Constitution Avenue near the National Mall on Friday night after reports of shots fired near the Washington Monument.

In a statement, the Secret Service said that a round of ammunition discovered Tuesday at the White House has not been conclusively linked to the Friday incident, and that an assessment to the exterior of the White House is ongoing. The shooting took place 700 to 800 yards from the White House.

Photographs on Wednesday showed law-enforcement authorities investigating windows on the South Portico of the White House, which faces the monument. According to the Secret Service, two rounds of ammunition were discovered Tuesday on the exterior of the White House. One damaged historic exterior glass, but was stopped by bulletproof glass.

The U.S. Park Police has released photos of Ortega-Hernandez and are seeking the public’s help in locating him. They say he is white Hispanic, 5- feet -11 and 160 pounds.

He has several tattoos: three dots on his right hand, “Ortega” on his upper back, and the words “Israel” on the left side of his neck.

The Secret Service opened its own investigation of the suspected gunman because of the proximity of the incident to the White House.

President Obama was not at the White House at the time of the incident Friday. He and the first lady were at the Carrier Classic basketball game in Coronado, Calif., at the time.
