Turkey’s state-run news agency says nine people have been killed — three police officers and six Kurdish rebels — in clashes in southeast Turkey.

The Anadolu Agency says rebels detonated an explosive-laden vehicle early Sunday at a police checkpoint in Turkey’s southeast province of Sirnak, killing two police officials and wounding five others. It says six Kurdish rebels were killed during operations launched afterward.

In a separate clash, rebels fired on police early Sunday in the southeastern town of Silvan, killing one and wounding another, Anadolu reported. A curfew was declared there. Turkey has seen spiraling violence since July, with hundreds reported killed in the renewed conflict between security forces and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK. The fighting has shattered a peace process that began in 2012.
