Envelope labeled anthrax sent to San Diego paper
One entrance to The San Diego Union-Tribune has been closed after a large envelope that authorities say contained a powdery substance labeled “anthrax” was opened in the newsroom.
San Diego City Fire Department spokesman Maurice Luque (loo-KAY’) says a hazardous materials team is examining the package that was opened this afternoon by a news assistant.
Luque says similar envelopes have been mailed to other media outlets around the country. He says the powdery substance was attached to a CD containing a picture of former Secretary of State Colin Powell.
