Youth Scene: Rotary pounds 13 hits in 4-1 win

Rotary’s bats came alive in the past week and its pitching was on point as the Laguna Beach Little League team picked up a pair of Intermediate Division victories in action at Riddle Field.

Rotary pounded out 13 hits Saturday against the Rancho Niguel Dodgers in recording a 4-1 win. Rotary came back Wednesday and produced a 16-hit attack which ended in an 8-1 win over visiting Laguna Niguel UCLA.

Griff Naess went six for six in both games, Jack Payne five for seven, and Brandon Lindsay four for five, to lead the Rotary hitting spree. Jett Hamil and Bryce Ford each had two hits against Laguna Niguel UCLA and Sam Marzulli collected two hits against the Rancho Niguel Dodgers. Rotary’s balanced attack in its line-up included hits by Riley Gapp, Chase Hall, Luca Laurence and Lucas McKibben.

Jack Payne was un-hittable on the mound in both games, allowing only one run to the Dodgers with 11 strikeouts, and struck out 17 without giving up a run against Laguna Niguel UCLA. Naess finished both games with two strikeouts in the final inning.

The two wins put Rotary at 11-4 for the season.

AAA Division

Crescent Bay Advisors 9, McKenna Porsche 2: Cade Anderton pitched an excellent game for CBA in its win over McKenna.

McKenna’s Oliver Thompson had a breakout game, lining two hits to the fence at Riddle Field.

McKenna will face Gapp Construction at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Riddle Field.
