Drivers make Motorsports Day special

Share

Car enthusiasts met award-winning Mazda racers on Saturday at Mazda’s first Motorsports Day, put together by a group of Cal State Fullerton communications students.

Tim Marecki, a senior communications major at the university, said he and three other students created the event in order to fulfill a requirement for a class.

“We had to put on some kind of service learning activity,” he said. “Part of that requirement is we have to work with a client, and in this case it was Mazda, to put together some type of communication marketing advertising plan. We were fortunate to work with Mazda to put on Motorsports Day, which we are hoping to turn into a national event.”

More than 200 guests met and enjoyed coffee and doughnuts with drivers like Joel Miller and Jonathon Bomarito at Huntington Beach Mazda.

“Having the professional drivers come out and talk to the attendees was awesome,” he said. “It’s not every day that motorsports enthusiasts get to stand there and talk to the person behind the wheel.”

He said the event was held also as a way of previewing the upcoming Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.
