Around Town: Color-dusted 5K hits Huntington on Saturday

Bored with your monotone running gear? It’s sure to get some livelier hues at the Color Run, a 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) race coming to Huntington State Beach on Saturday.

During the untimed race, participants are doused with paint dust of various colors, then can be covered in even more color at the postrace Finish Festival, featuring music and dancing.

Runners will take off from the starting line at 21601 Pacific Coast Hwy. at 9 and 10:30 a.m. The 9 a.m. slot is sold out. Registration for 10:30 is $49.50 per person for a team of four or more and $55 for runners going solo.

The event also is an effort to raise awareness and money for charity partner Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County, organizers say.

Thanksgiving Turkey Wobble to serve up 5K, 10K, kids’ 1K

Here’s a chance to work up an appetite before digging into Thanksgiving dinner.

Walkers and runners in the sixth annual Causelife Turkey Wobble will hit the road at 7 a.m. Nov. 26 at Huntington City Beach.

The event’s 5K (3.1-mile) and 10K (6.2-mile) routes will take participants on a flat oceanfront course beginning at the beach parking lot at Pacific Coast Highway and Beach Boulevard. Start times are available every 20 minutes until 9:40 a.m.

Children 12 and younger can try a 1K (0.62-mile) race at 10 a.m.

Adult registration is $35 in advance and $45 the day of the event. The kids’ 1K is $20.

Funds raised go to Causelife, which helps provide clean water in developing countries.

H.B. event raises $11,500 for CSP and Human Trafficking Task Force

Community Service Programs, a Santa Ana-based nonprofit that provides counseling and other support services to struggling Orange County families, and the Orange County Human Trafficking Task Force raised $11,500 at the first Season of Change benefit Nov. 7 at OPM Restaurant & Lounge in Huntington Beach.

The event, attended by 150 guests, was intended to raise awareness of labor and sex trafficking within Orange County’s Asian American population.

Since 2004, the county task force has helped more than 450 victims of human trafficking from 36 countries, according to a news release.
