New H.B. pet shop will offer professional grooming

A Huntington Beach woman will open a pet shop next month where owners can bathe their dogs, have them professionally groomed or buy specialized food, treats and toys.

Katie Randall, a three-year resident, expects to open EarthWise Pet at 8901 Atlanta Ave. in mid-September. The store is part of an Oregon-based nationwide chain founded in 1977 that also has locations in San Diego and the Bay Area.

Randall’s location is Orange County’s first EarthWise store, whose focus is predominantly on dog-related services and products.

It will include two self-wash tubs, where owners can bathe their dogs with different kinds of shampoos to cater to allergies and skin conditions.

“It’s much easier than doing it yourself at home,” said Randall, 31, who previously worked in marketing and sales for the American Heart Assn.

Randall said while working for the American Heart Assn., she learned about nutrition in humans. Many of the lessons she learned can also be applied to animals, she said.

“I learned a lot about how nutrition can impact humans, how we feel, our overall health and the energy levels that we have,” said Randall, who will be joined at the store seven days a week with her 4-year-old Morkie named Matilda. “Our products have a focus on being higher quality, with ingredients that are simpler, healthier and easier to understand.”

The store will also sell pet food that caters to different diets, allergies and budgets, as well as toys and other pet products, like sunscreen for dogs.
