On July 1, 2019, Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs was found dead in his Texas hotel room. The medical report says the 27-year-old died from “mixed ethanol, fentanyl and oxycodone intoxication” that led to choking on his vomit.

In August, former Angels communications director Eric Kay will stand trial after being charged with giving Skaggs the pills that resulted in his death. He’s the only person charged and has pleaded not guilty.
