Carol Cormaci is the managing editor/opinion of Times Community News North, including the Glendale News-Press, Burbank Leader and La Cañada Valley Sun, the latter of which is her hometown paper and where she began her journalism career.  She writes the “Piece of Mind” column for the Valley Sun, drawing on local politics, public education and day-to-day community life for inspiration.  For the News-Press and the Leader she focuses on opinion page pieces and the weekend editorials.  She is a native Southern Californian and a proud UCLA Bruin.
La Cañada History: Oscar-winner Larry Landsburgh shoots ‘two-headed horse’ photo to promote 1969 horse show

Larry Lansburgh, a La Cañada resident who won two academy awards for live-action animal films, including 1961's "The Horse with the Flying Tail," decided to shoot an attention-grabbing photo for the 1969 Children's Horse Show at Flintridge Riding Club that would suggest a horse had two heads.

State DAR award goes to St. Bede student for her essay on American history

Tackling the topic "The Women's Suffrage Campaign," eighth-grader Madeline Higgins captured the state award with her essay last month and her work is moving on to national competition, the Don Jose Verdugo Chapter of DAR has announced.
