Shifra Goldman, 85

A champion of modern art from Latin America, Goldman died in September from Alzheimer’s disease. Goldman described herself as a “activist art historian” and her career was devoted to the study and preservation of Chicano and Latin American art.  (Francine Orr / Los Angeles Times)

Lucian Freud, 88

The famed British painter died in London in July. The grandson of Sigmund Freud, he gained notoreity for his intense and deeply textural nude portraits. His subjects included Kate Moss and his own daughter, the fashion designer Bella Freud.

June Wayne, 93
