A fire extinguisher exploded on a bus at Los Angeles International Airport this morning, forcing the closure of the bottom level to all but emergency vehicles.

The accident occurred about 10:45 a.m. on the far west end of Terminal 1 as passengers were boarding the bus. Officials said the extinguisher containing compressed air malfunctioned.

The lower level of the airport was closed to all but emergency vehicles, but operations were proceeding normally and passengers were being diverted to the upper level.
