Night skiing and tubing for Presidents Day at Southern California ski resorts

Snow play on Presidents Day? Absolutely, with up to 2 feet of fresh powder reported at Southern California ski resorts from storms that started Friday. Expect it to be chilly; high temperatures for Sunday and Monday are expected to be in the mid to high 30s in the local mountains, according to weather forecasts.

Here’s the 411 on holiday skiing, boarding and tubing. Check ski-resort websites or call for prices and road conditions and closures.

Mountain High Ski Resort ([888] 754-7878) in Wrightwood offers a night skiing session at the west resort from 5 to 10 p.m. on Sunday and Monday. The east resort will be open 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; the west resort will be open 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. The North Pole Tubing park at the north resort will be open Sunday and Monday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Children must be at least 36 inches tall; tubes are provided.)

Bear Mountain and Snow Summit ([909) 866-5766 for both resorts) in Big Bear Lake also are reveling in fresh power. Bear Mountain reports all lifts will be open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Snow Summit will be open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. for daytime skiing, and a night session runs from 3 to 9:30 p.m.

Mt. Waterman ([818] 790-2002) in the Angeles National Forest plans to be open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday and Monday but advises visitors to call before heading up to the resort. There are no rentals at this resort, so you have to bring your own equipment or rent elsewhere.

Mt. Baldy ([909] 982-0800), north of Mt. Baldy Village, recommends an early start to avoid traffic delays. Ticket windows open at 7:15 a.m.; slopes are open 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and Monday. The Monster Tubing Park opens at 9 a.m. and runs tubing sessions 9 to 11 a.m., 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. (Children must be at least 36 inches tall; tubes are provided.)
