Where are you going for Christmas and New Year’s? Ask Mickey

You don’t really want a white Christmas after all, it seems.

Orlando, Fla., home of Mickey Mouse’s tropical Disney World kingdom, turned up as the top Christmas search destination on travel price comparison website Kayak, followed by New York City and Chicago. And trending searches right now for a Christmas holiday are all in Florida: Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Orlando.

But when it comes to New Year’s Eve, New York City emerges as the most searched destination, followed by Las Vegas and Orlando.

Kayak examined more than 1 billion searches to shine a light on the most searched destinations for Christmas and New Year’s Eve. The report found too that along with Florida’s gain in popularity comes a gain in airfare prices too.

The average cost of Christmas airfare to Miami is up 12.6%, and Orlando is up 10% over last year. Phoenix also showed a 10.3% increase in Christmas airfare prices, according to the report. New Year’s Eve airfares to Honolulu were up 16% from last year followed by a 10% increase to Cancun, Mexico, and a 9% increase to Seattle and Orlando.

Kayak earlier shared the best times to fly over the holidays to get the best price:
--For Christmas, leave Dec. 25 and return Dec. 28 and save up to 21%; and
--for New Year’s, leave Dec. 31 and return Jan. 3 or 4 to save up to 27%.

Domestic airfares are cheapest 21 days before your departure, but it’s too late for that. No great bargains right now for those thinking about an impulsive trip, but here are some airfares I found online Tuesday that leave Christmas Day and return four days later:

Los Angeles to New York City, $538 on Delta Air Ways; and Los Angeles to Orlando, $562, also on Delta.
