Web Buzz: SayHi Translate mostly impresses

When translation apps are a dime a dozen, don’t waste your time testing them. Download SayHi Translate and use it at home or on your next trip abroad. It’s just as useful for business as it is for leisure travel.

Name: SayHi Translate

Available for: iPhone, iPod touch, iPad

What it does: Interprets 32 languages and dialects. Speak into the device and watch as your words appear in the conversation box. You select the language, and the translation is then spoken. You can select both the speaker and translator languages.

Cost: $2.99

What’s hot: Are you traveling with a group? Have one person speak common phrases that are translated and then share them with your fellow travelers by email, text message, Twitter or Facebook. You can choose a male or female voice as your interpreter, and save paired languages in your “favorites.” Other translation apps offer similar features, but the user interface, speed and ease of use set this app apart.

What’s not: The text was pretty small on my iPhone, and I couldn’t find a way to make it bigger. I tried stretching it on the touch screen the same way you would enlarge a photo or Web page on your iPhone, but no luck. Nor could I find a larger font setting.
