Daily Deal: Tour Rome and the Colosseum by moonlight -- and save
May marks the beginning of moonlight tours at the Colosseum in Rome. From now through October, the Archaeological Heritage of Rome takes visitors on night tours to see the arena and the amphitheater as well as the underground rooms and passages where animals and gladiators awaited their fate.
Illinois-based TourCrafters has designed a four-night Rome Midnight Dream package that includes the moonlight tour as well as admission to “Constantine 313 AD,” an exhibition on display at the Colosseum until Sept. 15 It marks the 1,700th year since the Roman emperor issued the Edict of Milan and legitimized Christianity as a religion.
Of course, there’s much more reason to stay up late in the Italian capital too. The package comes with a 48-hour pass on the Hop On Hop Off bus, which means visiting cafes, piazzas, fountains and whatever you like into the wee hours.
The deal: The cost of the package, which comes with hotel and extras (see below), is a bargain, pricing out to less than $100 a day per person.
When: Customized tour dates are available from July 1-Aug. 31.
Price: Starting at $378 a person, double occupancy. Includes four nights at the Hotel Brasile (upgrades available), breakfast, Hop on Hop Off bus pass, guided tours and even a free gelato. International airfare and some taxes are extra.
