Bing Crosby’s onetime desert retreat asking $5 million
A onetime retreat of entertainer Bing Crosby is on the market in Rancho Mirage at $5 million.
Sitting on nearly 1.4 acres, the Midcentury Modern house was built in 1957.
Ten-foot-tall front doors open to a sprawling 6,700 square feet on a single story. Living and family rooms, a den and a home theater are among living spaces. The kitchen features hand-carved Moroccan doors.
An attached two-bedroom guest suite has a kitchen, a living area and a separate entrance. There’s a 1,400-square-foot master suite for a total of six bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms.
Sliding glass doors at the back of the house open to views of the Coachella Valley. The outdoor swimming pool was a popular Hollywood party spot during Crosby’s ownership.
The property last sold in 2005 for $2.625 million.
Crosby, who died in 1977 at 74, won a lead actor Oscar for “Going My Way” (1944). He was paired with Bob Hope in the “Road to” movies from 1940 to 1962.
As a singer he recorded more than three dozen No. 1 hits, including the chart-topping “White Christmas.”
Marc Lange and Carl Blea of HOM Sotheby’s International Realty are the listing agents.
