Kickstarter campaign still has $40,000 to make potato salad

For a minute, it was a mystery for the ages: Where did the $30,000 for potato salad go?

The Internet has gone increasingly gaga over Ohio resident Zack Danger Brown’s Kickstarter campaign to crowd fund the making of a batch of potato salad.

“Basically I’m just making potato salad,” the campaign reads. “I haven’t decided what kind yet.” Brown is the co-owner of a software company, according to the Associated Press.

On Monday, he had about $11,000. By Wednesday night, Brown had amassed just over $70,000, as seen in screen shots of the page.

But Thursday morning around $30,000 worth of funding disappeared. Was the potato salad craze over? Were donors fleeing?

It turns out three large pledges of $10,000 each were canceled because they didn’t pass Kickstarter’s verification process, Justin Kazmark, a spokesman for the company, told the Los Angeles Times on Thursday morning.

The campaign had lost some money earlier in the week, but according to the Kazmark, it was a result of people either adjusting or canceling their pledges.

He said he didn’t know how many donations had been canceled or adjusted.
