Apple recalls Beats Pill XL speaker for overheating and fire concerns

Share

Apple is recalling its Beats Pill XL speaker because the battery might overheat and pose a fire safety risk.

The speaker has been sold worldwide since January 2014 by Beats, Apple and other retailers.

Apple is asking Beats Pill XL owners to stop using them and return them to the company for a $325 refund or Apple Store credit.

“Customer safety is always a top priority at both Apple and Beats, and we have voluntarily decided to recall this product,” the Cupertino, Calif., company said in a statement Wednesday.

Customers can fill out an online form to receive a postage-paid box they can use to return the speaker. Apple said it would issue Apple Store credit or electronic refund within about three weeks of receiving a return.

The company said returns would only be processed online, not in stores. “Please do not attempt to return your product to any location that sells or supports Apple or Beats products,” it said.
