Missed out on ‘Beautiful — The Carole King Musical’? Now you get another chance

If you missed seeing the Broadway hit “Beautiful — The Carole King Musical” when it was at the Pantages this summer, take note. The show is coming to Segerstrom Center for the Arts from Tuesday through Oct. 16.

The Costa Mesa rendition will feature much of the same cast and crew as the Hollywood version, with two notable exceptions: The role of Carole King will be played by Julia Knitel instead of Abby Mueller, and the role of Cynthia Weil will be played by Erika Olson instead of Becky Golsvig.

The casting of Mueller was interesting partly because she is the older sister of Jessie Mueller, the actress who originated the role on Broadway and won a Tony for her performance in 2014.

Nonetheless, the show is still directed by Marc Bruni with a set by Derek McLane and choreography by Josh Prince, all of whom received praise in Times theater critic Charles McNulty’s review of the show over the summer.
