Christian Bale’s trippy night out with Terrence Malick

The Dark Knight might need a little extra time to rise, as Christian Bale had a late one this weekend.

It’s not the Soho House cavorting or Chateau Marmont bungalow-hopping one might imagine. Bale burned the midnight oil Friday at work on the mystery-shrouded new film from director Terrence Malick.

At Hollywood’s Supperclub guests were greeted with posted notices from Dogwood Films, Malick’s production company, informing them they’d be filmed upon entering the venue.

The Ministry was present and spotted Bale immediately. The actor was seated in a vintage electric chair, complete with a tin cap, surrounded by clubgoers rocking him back and forth on a raised platform.

It was as trippy as it sounds. Malick was a lone cameraman with only a lighting assistant by his side. Our brother blog Movies Now tells us the film in question, “Knight of Cups,” follows a man reflecting on a series of relationships with beautiful women.

And beautiful women were certainly on hand at Supperclub. After his electric chair spin, Bale was tailed by Malick through the massive crowd.

Lingerie-clad dancers, in a cage suspended from the ceiling, played for his attention while one lucky blond got to bump and grind with Bale as patrons watched. At one point, a nearby table “made it rain,” tossing a wad of cash over the entire scene.

We think Bruce Wayne would’ve felt at home. Director and star disappeared from the crowd close to 1 a.m. Hopefully Bale will get some beauty sleep — “The Dark Knight Rises” sees its Hollywood premiere on Monday.
