Thanksgiving: Obama pardons turkeys, stars think of Sandy victims

Share

Hokey as it may be, the presidential turkey pardon is a surefire sign that Thanksgiving dinner is only a day away -- and President Obama brought his daughters, Sasha and Malia, with him for Wednesday’s annual ceremony.

Cobbler and Gobbler, two turkeys from Miller Farm in Virginia, waddled off into the sunset as free birds after the president and first daughters posed for some photos with them at the White House.

“Later on Michelle, Sasha and Malia and I will take two turkeys who were not so lucky to a local food bank in Washington, D.C.,” Obama told the crowd, turning attention to those in need.

People like the victims of Hurricane Sandy along the Eastern Seaboard.

“I have yet to find a broken spirit,” Obama said of his travels up and down the coast, visiting sites ravaged or altogether obliterated by the storm.

Hollywood is stepping up for Sandy victims in time for the holiday, as well. Wednesday saw the announcement of an auction series for the Charity Food Bank of New Jersey.

Hot ticket items up for grabs include a walk-on to the set of Selena Gomez’s new music video, a personalized outgoing voicemail message from Glenn Close, dinner with Sarah Jessica Parker, a styling session from Kim and Kourtney Kardashian and a psychic reading from John Edwards.
