Some of the eight films nominated for this year's Academy Award for best picture are fact-based dramas reminding us that truth can be stranger — and more interesting — than fiction. They include "The Imitation Game," "The Theory of Everything," "Selma" and "American Sniper."
Other nominees are works of imagination but still underscore how art and life so often imitate each other. Take "Birdman" and its self-reflexive Hollywood story, for example, or "Boyhood" with its documentary-like chronicle of the passage of time.
In honor of this year's best picture nominees, The Times has compiled its own list of eight intriguing facts, one about each film, and presented them for your viewing pleasure. Check it out above.
