Rutlemania returns

Share

It’s too late for a reunion of the Beatles but not for the foursome who good-naturedly mocked them, the Rutles.

The four performers who starred in “The Rutles: All You Need Is Cash” -- Eric Idle, Neil Innes, Ricky Fataar and John Halsey -- will get together to celebrate its 30th anniversary at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood on March 17. Organizers say it will be the first time all four have appeared together since the program was made.

The event, presented by American Cinematheque’s Mods & Rockers Film Festival, will feature a screening of the film, which was written and co-directed by Idle -- earlier of “Monty Python” fame and more recently known for the “Spamalot” musical -- and premiered on NBC March 22, 1978.

Also on the bill are clips from the 2003 sequel, Rutles-related footage from “Saturday Night Live” and the 1975 British TV skit that was the inspiration for “All You Need Is Cash.”
