Lakers great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar puts Marina del Rey home up for sale

Lakers legend and basketball Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has put his home court in a gated Marina del Rey enclave up for sale for slightly under $3 million.

The multilevel house, built in 2000 and since remodeled, sits next door to the longtime home of late Chicago Cubs great Ernie Banks and has a view of the harbor and main waterway.

Some 3,200 square feet of interiors features marble floors, decorative columns, hand-carved mahogany doors and vaulted ceilings — a feature that likely appealed to the 7-foot-2 center. A staircase wrapped in wrought iron leads upstairs.

Formal living and dining rooms, an open-plan kitchen with an island/bar, a family room and an office/den are among the common areas. The master suite, complete with a custom walk-in closet, fireplace and sitting area, opens to a terrace balcony with a view of the harbor.

A paver patio, hedges and gardens make up the grounds. There’s also a two-car garage.

The property previously changed hands in 2011 for $1.525 million.

Denise Fast of Re/Max Estate Properties holds the listing, according to the Multiple Listing Service.

Abdul-Jabbar, 69, won three NCAA championships at UCLA under legendary coach John Wooden and six NBA titles across 20 seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers. Six times the NBA’s most valuable player, he holds the league career scoring record with 38,387 points.

He was elected to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 1995.
