Miami jury convicts second man in slaying of NFL’s Sean Taylor
A Miami jury convicted a second man Tuesday in the 2007 slaying of Washington Redskins star Sean Taylor.
Jason Mitchell, 25, was found guilty of first-degree felony murder and armed burglary, according to the Associated Press.
Taylor, 24, a fan favorite and Pro Bowl safety, was fatally shot in his Miami home during a botched robbery. The incident began when a group of men broke into Taylor’s home to rob him. He was shot in the leg; the bullet struck his femoral artery, causing a significant amount of the blood loss.
Prosecutors argued Mitchell had masterminded the crime.
The man accused of firing the fatal shot, Eric Rivera Jr., was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 57 years in prison late last year. Rivera had confessed on videotape to police days after the incident, although at trial he said his confession came only under police pressure and amid purported threats to his family.
Witnesses told police Taylor confronted the men.
