Normal LAX operations to resume by midnight after computer glitch
Tens of thousands of travelers have been affected by flight delays and cancellations at Los Angeles International Airport, where officials said all operations were expected to return to normal by midnight.
A Federal Aviation Administration computer system problem caused delays and cancellations at LAX and other Southern California airports Wednesday afternoon and evening.
An LAX spokesman said Wednesday night departure operations were expected be back normal by 11 p.m. and that arrival operations were expected to return to normal by midnight.
The computer problem caused 50 departing and arriving flights to be canceled and 455 others to be delayed, airport officials said.
The airport said that tens of thousands of passengers were affected by the delays and nearly 6,800 others were affected by the cancellations.
Parking structures 3, 4, 5 and 6 were being closed and reopened Wednesday night because they were intermittently reaching capacity, according to LAX officials. Motorists were advised to use structures 1, 2, 7 and Lot C at 96th Street and Sepulveda Boulevard.
