L.A. Attorney to Head State Bar Association

A Los Angeles attorney and former municipal court judge has been elected president of the California State Bar Assn.

Sheldon H. Sloan, 70, will become the 82nd president of the 200,000-member organization when he takes over for Riverside attorney James O. Heiting in October.

State bar: In Monday’s California section, a story and its headline referred to the election of a Los Angeles attorney to head the State Bar Assn. It should have referred to the State Bar of California, which is not an association but a public corporation within the judicial branch of government.

Sloan is a graduate of USC law school whose specialty is representing clients who deal with government agencies.

In two rounds of balloting Saturday, he beat out Paul Hokokian of Fresno and Demetrius Shelton of Oakland.
