An Anaheim family of three has been taken into custody and charged with the robbery of a bank near their home, police said Tuesday.

Charles Clements, 48; his wife, Tammy, 45; and her son Bryan Clements, 28, are accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from the Bank of the West in the 600 block of South Brookhurst Street, just a block from their home on Mills End Road, Anaheim Police Sgt. Rick Martinez said.

About 2 p.m. on Jan. 27, Charles Clements kidnapped an off-duty bank teller at gunpoint from her home, forcing her to drive to the bank, Martinez said. He made her call another teller inside the bank, who was ordered inside the bank’s vault, where she and a third employee were forced to take out tens of thousands of dollars and bring it outside to the vehicle, Martinez said.

The family had spent months orchestrating the robbery, staking out the bank and watching the patterns of the tellers they planned to use in the holdup, Martinez said.

On Thursday, police served search warrants and arrested the couple at their home. The son was arrested Friday. All three have been charged with kidnapping and robbery.

The couple appeared in court Monday in Fullerton and were ordered held on $1.1-million bail. The son appeared in court Tuesday and was ordered held on the same bail. Police were able to recover some of the stolen money, but they said a portion had been spent.
