Decision on housing development is delayed

From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The state Coastal Commission on Thursday postponed deciding whether a developer can build homes on the last large parcel near Huntington Beach’s Bolsa Chica wetlands.

At stake is a proposed Shea Homes project that would put up to 170 homes, plus parks and open space on 50 acres. Huntington Beach officials tentatively approved the development in 2002 but need commission approval to change the area’s zoning.

City officials asked for more time to review memos and photographs submitted this week to the commission, which meets monthly. Commissioners could take up the issue as early as late spring.
