Happy Holidays! Happy New Year!
Happy Birthday! This slide show is past its SECOND birthday WHILE STILL IN PUBLICATION on December 24, 2011. I wonder if this slide show from May, 2009 will still be on the LA Times online education page in 2012. 2013? 2050?
I wonder if one realizes that the word news is based on the word new, as in NOT OLD. Perhaps one could note the debate on rousing K-12 education has evolved a great deal in the past year. Public School Choice is gone. Existing charter schools are roundly criticized. Teach for America is roundly criticized. Merit pay has been shown to have no discernible effect. Greater intellectual dexterity and flexibility by the Los Angeles Times in the new year would be greatly appreciated.
Happy Holidays! Happy New Year! 2012 will be better than 2011.
---The L.A. Times is a joke.---
School districts and teachers constantly preach and tout that they're biggest concern is for the kids, meanwhile the real concern is only for their own interests and job protections. When enough people rise up and make enough noise, then school officials and teachers begin to take action, but only with those cases, such as this one, where there is enough noise, that school officials would look very bad publically if they continue to do nothing. In these such cases as well as cases of bullying of kids by other kids.
Parents need to wake up!!
This boy's story is so sad and alarming. His advice is very important. One can tell he is a person of the best kind.
And he and his family fought back, therefore, he and his family are not victims of this, rather they are victorious. And no one could ever be able to hurt him like that again.
Thank you very very much for sharing your story. It needed to be heard!!
