The rest of us....or at least myself , have not had a raise in 4 years and our saleries were cut 10% last year, and we are facing similar cuts again as part of the governors plan .....thats 20% cut in 2 years ....Happy? Its either a little pain now Vs. collaspe later
Seriously, UCI Inspector, you work for the system. I work for private industry and I got to tell you NO ONE, gets the benefits you do.
If you have no problem with the tax increase, then you likely wouldn't mind if an independent compensation committee is set up to decide salaries? How about if the state cuts your matching to say 10% match up to your 10% contribution (since it is likely that you are on that type of plan).
Adding taxes to the private sector has deep implications that state workers don't understand. Your job isn't likely to be shipped to a lower tax state. The school simply applies for a tax exemption to the registration fees.
Bottom line: even if you have worked in the private sector you have likely forgotten what is going on in it. I have gone in and out of the state system, and I know how quickly one forgets what it is like to have to be profitable. You as a state worker have other worries that the private sector doesn't understand either. But put it into your head this concept: TAXES ON PRIVATE SECTOR ARE BAD. Kind of simple, and isn't quite 100% true, but it is mostly true.
