Anti-Smoking Groups Win Ruling in U.S. Suit

A federal judge said she would consider the views of anti-smoking and health advocates if she decided to impose sanctions against cigarette makers in the U.S. government’s racketeering case against the industry.
U.S. District Judge Gladys Kessler agreed to let six anti-smoking groups intervene in the suit, saying the Justice Department “no longer adequately represents” their interests.
