Maryland police: Arrest thwarts ‘another Aurora’ mass shooting
Maryland police say the arrest of a man in Crofton, Md., has thwarted a mass-shooting plot described by one official as “another Aurora.”
Law enforcement authorities from Prince George’s County, Anne Arundel County and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives will hold a news conference at 1 p.m. Eastern (10 a.m. Pacific) on a “thwarted terror plot,” according to a news release.
ABC 7 television in Maryland reported that a man with an arsenal of weapons at his home had been arrested after allegedly making threats against his employer, document management company Pitney Bowes. The company was considering firing him, according to the report, which quoted unnamed police sources.
A law enforcement source told the station the shooting could have been “another Aurora” — in reference to the mass killing at a Colorado movie theater last week. Twelve people were killed in that attack and 58 were wounded.
The Washington Post also reported that the man had a grudge against his employer, citing unnamed police sources.
Prince George’s and Anne Arundel county police could not be immediately reached for more information.
