President-elect Barack Obama bid his native Hawaii “aloha” on Thursday after a 12-day vacation.

Obama, wife Michelle and their two young daughters flew to Chicago, where they were expected to arrive early today.

The Obamas plan to go to Washington this weekend, where he is expected to meet Monday with congressional leaders to talk about the economy and the legislative agenda, according to a senior congressional aide.

Obama will meet with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, then join them in a meeting with GOP leaders, said the aide, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he had not been authorized to discuss the plans.

Obama’s daughters start school Monday.

In Hawaii on Thursday morning, the temperature was in the 70s. In Chicago, it was in the 20s. “I wish I could hang out with you, but I’ve got to go home,” Obama told onlookers.
