Joint offensive against rebels
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Three African armies have launched an offensive against Ugandan rebels based in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Uganda, southern Sudan and Congo wiped out the main camp in Congo used by the elusive leader of the Lord’s Resistance Army, Joseph Kony, said a spokesman for Congo’s army.
There was no immediate word on casualties. It was unclear whether Kony was there. The rebels, who have been fighting for 20 years, are notorious for kidnapping children and using them as soldiers.
