Times Wire Reports

Eight British Muslims plotted to kill thousands of civilians in 2006 by using homemade liquid bombs disguised as soft drinks to blow up at least seven passenger planes over the Atlantic, a prosecutor said as their trial opened.

The eight men, ages 22 to 30, deny conspiracy to murder. Their arrests triggered changes to airport security, including restrictions on carrying liquids aboard planes.
