Six killed in violence across Iraq

Two members of U.S.-led forces were killed and 38 wounded Wednesday by a rocket or mortar attack on a base outside Baghdad, the U.S. military reported today.

The victims’ nationality was not specified. The military also said two “third-country nationals” were injured in the “indirect fire” attack at Camp Victory, near the Baghdad airport.

The deaths came as bombings and shootings around Iraq killed at least four people and injured more than 30. Three U.S. patrols were targeted with roadside bombs, but there were no immediate reports of casualties.

One roadside bomb directed at a U.S. patrol near the National Theater in Baghdad injured three civilians and set an American vehicle ablaze.

A bomb targeting a U.S. patrol in Baghdad’s Karada neighborhood killed a civilian and wounded six, but no troops were hurt, Iraqi police said.

A blast in the east Baghdad neighborhood of Mashtal reportedly set a U.S. vehicle on fire early in the morning, but there was no word about casualties.

Also in Baghdad, an Iraqi police patrol also was hit by a roadside blast, which injured four people, including two officers; gunmen struck a car carrying railway officials, killing one person and wounding five; and an attack on a minibus killed one and wounded six.

In northern Iraq, a suicide bomber detonated an explosives-laden truck at an Iraqi army base west of the city of Kirkuk, killing one person and wounding five, and an explosion near an Iraqi police academy in the city of Tikrit injured two.
