Driver rams Israeli troops in Jerusalem, injuring 13
A driver injured 13 troops Monday when he plowed a BMW into a group at a busy intersection near Jerusalem’s Old City and was then shot dead by a soldier, Israeli police and rescue workers said.
The driver was not immediately identified, but city police commander Ilan Franco said he was a Palestinian resident of East Jerusalem who apparently acted alone. Israel TV said the car was registered to a resident of Jebel Mukaber, an Arab village within the city limits.
Ambulances and police units raced to the scene after the crash. Police said two of the 13 injured were in serious condition.
Israel Radio said the soldiers, from the Artillery Corps, were on a tour of Jerusalem.
In July, two Palestinians carried out attacks using heavy construction equipment, killing three people and injuring several others. Both were killed by police and soldiers.
