CBS News momentarily honors wrong Jeter; creates Internet gold
Tuesday was a big night for Jeter.
No, not the ballplayer, the late actor.
After CBS News, in a tweet, confused the actor Michael Jeter with New York Yankee Derek Jeter, who will retire at the end of this season and was playing in his final All-Star game, the Internet went crazy.
Within a matter of minutes, social media sites were flooded with messages and pictures of Michael Jeter, leading the actor's name to trend worldwide.
Michael Jeter, who died in 2003, was in a long list of movies, including “The Green Mile,” “Jurassic Park 3” and “Patch Adams.”
The CBS mistake was down almost as fast as it was tweeted, with a correction. But that didn’t matter. The Internet already had dug in the claws.
