Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc., a U.S. unit of Sony Corp., said its new PlayStation Portable video-game machines generated more than $150 million in sales at U.S. retailers in the first week of release.

Sony started selling the $249 game system, also called the PSP, on March 24. The PSP is the first challenge by Sony to Nintendo in the $4.5-billion market for hand-held gaming devices. It also plays movies and music.
