Abu Dhabi: Camel milk latte or shake? Ritz mixologist can do--and does

There’s a place in Abu Dhabi where now you can order up milkshakes made with camel milk, locally sourced, of course, in strawberry, chocolate, date, banana or mint flavors. Or an iced camel milk latte.

Mohammad Daoud proudly claims the title “camel milk mixologist” at the newly opened Ritz-Carlton Abu-Dhabi, Grand Canal.

The shake-it-up wizard says he came up with the idea of muddling ingredients for his smoothie-like creations that cost about $6 each as a special Ramadan treat. (Ramadan’s time of prayer and fasting for Muslims starts July 9 and lasts until Aug. 7.)

“Because camel milk has a high level of protein and additional nutrients, it’s an excellent beverage to consume during Sohour, the meal taken prior to sunrise for Muslims fasting during Ramadan,” Daoud said in a statement.

But his concoctions will continue after Ramadan. The hotel’s Mijana restaurant, which features Arab fare, will continue offering the camel-milk creations for guests looking for something new and authentic, according to a statement.

And you can meet with Daoud for recommendations (maybe add camel milk sommelier to his title?) on what flavors pair best with what foods.

The hotel, next to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, opened in March. It has 532 rooms with one- and two-bedroom villas and a private beach.

Make a reservation at Mijana to meet the mixologist and sample a concoction by emailing restaurant.reservations@ritzcarlton.com.
