6:06 p.m.: Meryl Streep, who is winning what awards pundits say is her 5,362th major award, gives an appropriately theatrical speech on stage after beating three other actresses, as well as herself, in taking the best actress - comedy/musical prize for ‘Julie & Julia.’ She speaks of the ‘extraordinary women’ she’s played, before going somber and current events-appropriate with ‘I come to Golden Globes weekend and I’m honestly conflicted how to have my happy self in the face of everything that I’m aware of in the real world.’ It’s a serious moment. The more frivolous question -- but nonetheless the one that awards pundits will spend the next six weeks hashing out -- is whether this means she’s now the undisputed favorite for a best actress Oscar. Streep still has to contend with Sandra Bullock on the drama side; if the congenial one can take that prize later in the show, we’ve clarified little. If she gets upset, Streep may have grabbed the edge.
